Following the recent decision by the GJKKO Appeals Court imposing a “mandatory appearance” measure on former Prime Minister and historic leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, reactions from the opposition have been swift.
In a statement to the media, Agron Gjekmarkaj, Deputy Chair of the Democratic Party and the Albanian Parliament, labeled the decision as an unacceptable act and an overt attempt to favor the ruling majority ahead of the upcoming elections.
“There is nothing more absurd than this latest decision by the Special Court against Sali Berisha. It is evident that this is a dishonest attempt to form an alliance with the majority at a time when elections are near, and when fairness and justice should be guiding principles,” Gjekmarkaj stated.
He further emphasized that Albanians will respond decisively to this situation in the May 11 elections, underscoring that history has proven Sali Berisha’s great battles are always a matter of time and perseverance.
“This effort to bend justice in favor of the majority will fail, just as all past attempts to stop Sali Berisha have failed. Albanians are aware and ready to defend their vote and their future,” he concluded.
