Entela Terziu: The Ambassador of Albanian Traditions in the Diaspora

Entela Terziu, the daughter of Destan Balliu from the village of Funar in Librazhd, has an inspiring story of migration and dedication to preserving Albanian cultural heritage. She emigrated 18 years ago to Nafplio, Argolida, Greece, where she opened her small tailoring business. Five years ago, Entela and her family relocated to London, continuing the same profession with passion and devotion to style and Albanian traditions.

In London, through her work as a tailor and designer, she has become an ambassador for Albanian culture and traditions. One of the most significant moments in her journey was on September 15, when Entela voluntarily provided traditional Albanian costumes for an international event. The Albanian participants, dressed in traditional attire from Çermenika, represented Albania in a competition among 12 countries and won first place.

Another success came on September 21, when Entela and her family participated in another cultural event, again dressed in traditional costumes. Their attire, combined with other elements such as the traditional table setting, the çifteli, and the darja, captured the attention and admiration of the local mayor, who expressed a desire to learn more about Albanian traditions. In collaboration with Juliana, another Albanian engaged in presenting our traditions, they organized a cultural project in honor of Albania’s Independence Day, celebrated on November 28.

During this event, Entela showcased traditional costumes from Çermenika and Rrajca, which captivated attendees with their unique colors and beauty. The mayor, impressed by Entela’s work, expressed readiness to support future events that promote Albanian heritage.

This tireless effort to preserve and promote her homeland’s traditions culminated in an invitation from King Charles. Entela and Juliana attended a royal reception, where the Albanian traditional costumes attracted the attention and admiration of the guests. King Charles, impressed by the attire and its story, inquired about their origin and significance, expressing great appreciation for preserving such a rich cultural heritage.

Entela Terziu’s success and dedication to Albanian traditions are an excellent example of preserving and promoting national identity in the diaspora. She continues to inspire her fellow compatriots and serves as a worthy ambassador of Albanian culture.
