The Lake (or marsh) of Maliq is one of the most interesting and valuable ecosystems Albania has ever had. There is only one somewhat detailed study about it, conducted by a group of German researchers during World War II. Among other things, the study describes the lake as one of the most important water bodies serving as resting places for migratory birds, with around 5,000 landings recorded within 24 hours during such periods. The lake was drained in 1946-1947 for justified reasons in the context of the social-political circumstances of that time.In the early 1990s, the remaining land from the lake’s drying was distributed according to Law 7501, among residents of surrounding areas and partly to those of the former commune of Moglice.Today, in the center of the former lake, in an area of about 600 hectares, nature has almost restored all conditions for the reformation of the lake. I believe it is the right time to seriously consider partial restoration of the lake, implementing an integrated management scheme for this type of ecosystem. Our recent studies all speak in favor of restoring the lake. This process is supported by positive indicators in terms of environmental, tourism, and socio-economic aspects. In this exclusive report, we delve further into the significance of this event and its impact on the local community. The story brings forward exciting details that underline why this development is noteworthy for fans and citizens alike. We also explore the broader implications this may have on the team’s or individual’s future endeavors and community engagement.
