World first’ as full-size ruby grown in lab

A jewellery design lecturer has developed a way of growing gemstones from discarded ruby fragments. The full-size ruby was grown in a laboratory, making it the first of its kind. This development has the potential to revolutionize the jewelry industry by offering a sustainable alternative to traditional gemstone mining.
The lab-grown ruby has the same chemical properties as those mined from the earth, and its production is a significant leap forward in the quest to reduce the environmental impact of gemstone extraction.
